The Holy Monastery is dedicated to Saint John the Theologian and Saint Arsenios the Cappadocian. In the Monastery there are the Relics of Agios Arsenios of Cappadocia which are in its katholikon as well as the tomb of Osios Paisios.
MONASTERY OF SAINT JOHN THEOLOGOU
The Monastery of Saint John the Theologian is located in Souroti, Thessaloniki.
Souroti is located approximately 28 kilometers from Thessaloniki, not far from
the main road that connects the city with the capital of Halkidiki, Polygyros.
The Holy Monastery is dedicated to Saint John the Theologian and Saint Arsenios the
Cappadocian. In the Monastery there are the Relics of Agios Arsenios of Cappadocia
which are in its katholikon as well as the tomb of Osios Paisios. Saint Paisios
fell asleep on July 12, 1994 and was buried next to the church of Saint Arsenios.
Since then, every year on July 11 to 12, on the anniversary of the Elder's
sleep, a vigil is held in the Holy Hermitage, with the participation of
thousands of believers.
MONASTERY OF SAINT ANASTASIA FARMAKOLYTRIA
The Holy Royal Patriarchal and Stavropigian Monastery of Saint Anastasia of Farmokolytria
in Halkidiki was founded in the year 888 under Augustus Theofano, during the
Patriarchate of Photios the Great. In the year 1552, the Hieromonk Theonas,
after accompanying him, re-founded this Holy Monastery and became its Abbot,
later promoted to Archbishop of Thessaloniki, where he had a holy end, and the
Church ranked him after the Saints. In the Holy Monastery are kept the Sacred
Chariot of Saint Anastasia, the whole Holy Relic of Saint Theon, Abbot of the
Monastery and Metropolitan of Thessaloniki, Sacred Wood, donated by Augustus
Theophanos and many other Holy Relics.
