In the footsteps of M. Alexander

Archelaus moved the capital of the kingdom of Macedonia from Aiges to Pella. The city flourished during the period of the descendants of Alexander the Great, who brought untold treasures from Asia. In the first period of excavations, the Agora, the Palaces, the sanctuaries, the cemeteries and the settlements were revealed.

From Pella, with the visitor, we follow the National Highway to Edessa. At a distance of 6km from Naoussa we find the village of Kopanos. There is Aristotle's school where he taught Alexander the Great, the Mieza Theater whose capacity is estimated at 1,500 spectators. Vergina, 28 km from Kopanos, became world famous, thanks to the discovery of the ancient city of Aige, the old capital of the Macedonian state. The tomb of Philip II, the father of M. Alexander, stands out. In addition, the building complex of the city of Aige, the Macedonian palace and a prehistoric cemetery have been discovered.
